In the 2026 joint ministerial decree, 3 April is the death of Jesus Christ, 5 April is the resurrection of Jesus Christ (Paskah), 14 May is the Ascension, and 25 December is the birth of Jesus Christ — all four are national holidays. A country with a Muslim majority has placed the entire stretch of the church calendar from Good Friday to Ascension into the national schedule.

The United States does not list Easter as a federal holiday, and Good Friday is not one either. No day named after a Christian observance appears on the federal holiday list except Christmas. Part of why Easter does not 'need' a holiday is the same reason as in India: it already falls on a Sunday. The actual content of the day — church services, eggs, a family lunch, the egg roll on the White House lawn — all happens inside a weekend that already existed, taking nothing from the calendar. Easter in the United States always falls on a Sunday, so it neither needs to be nor ever has been a federal holiday — a federal holiday exists to release a working day, and Sunday is not one. The difference is made by the Friday before: Good Friday is a state holiday in some states and not in others, so across state lines the same Easter weekend can contain a different number of working days.

Indonesia also lists the Ascension of Jesus Christ, the fortieth day after Easter, as a national holiday — 14 May in 2026, a Thursday. That day is not a holiday in any of the other six places here, not even Brazil or the United States. Putting Ascension into the national calendar means what Indonesia recognises is not a single point but the whole stretch of the church calendar from Good Friday through Easter to the Ascension: a country with a Muslim majority gives the Christian calendar the most complete space of any on this page.

🇨🇳Does China have Easter?

Neither list in China's Measures on National Holidays and Commemorative Days contains Easter. Religious days here are a local matter: Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr are made days off by the autonomous regions where the believing population is concentrated, never nationwide. Easter does not appear even at that level, because the mechanism was built for particular autonomous regions rather than as a channel open to any religion. Easter falls on a Sunday; Good Friday is worked as usual.

🇯🇵Does Japan have Easter?

Japan's Act on National Holidays lists sixteen days, and Easter is not among them. There is exactly one route to adding one: amend the Act. That differs from Brazil devolving religious days to its municipalities, or China letting autonomous regions set their own — Japan has no local mechanism for a religious holiday at all, so unless the Diet moves, the list does not. Easter itself falls on a Sunday, so the practical effect is limited; Good Friday is a full working day.

🇹🇼Does Taiwan have Easter?

Easter is not in Taiwan's Act on Commemorative Days and Holidays, and that fact costs almost no one anything — Easter is always a Sunday, and nobody is at work. What does make a difference is the Friday before: Good Friday here is a full working day, so the Good Friday service is usually held in the evening. The only religious days in the Act are the Daoist day and the Buddha's birthday, and the latter is expressly given no day off either.
