Does Taiwan have Easter?

Easter is not in Taiwan's Act on Commemorative Days and Holidays, and that fact costs almost no one anything — Easter is always a Sunday, and nobody is at work. What does make a difference is the Friday before: Good Friday here is a full working day, so the Good Friday service is usually held in the evening. The only religious days in the Act are the Daoist day and the Buddha's birthday, and the latter is expressly given no day off either.

Easter's institutional position differs sharply across these four places, and not in the direction most people expect: Muslim-majority Indonesia lists four Christian observances as national holidays — Good Friday, Easter, Ascension and Christmas; the Christian-majority United States lists none of them as federal holidays except Christmas; Brazil hands the decision on religious holidays to municipal councils with a cap of four; and India's national list carries Good Friday rather than Easter Sunday.
