Brazil's religious holidays are not decided federally. Article 2 of Law 9,093/1995 provides that religious days of observance are declared by municipal law according to local tradition, capped at four, and states explicitly that Good Friday is counted among those four. So around the same Easter, two neighbouring municipalities may differ on whether anyone gets the day off — religious holidays in Brazil are a matter of local self-government, not a nationally uniform arrangement.

Easter's institutional position differs sharply across these four places, and not in the direction most people expect: Muslim-majority Indonesia lists four Christian observances as national holidays — Good Friday, Easter, Ascension and Christmas; the Christian-majority United States lists none of them as federal holidays except Christmas; Brazil hands the decision on religious holidays to municipal councils with a cap of four; and India's national list carries Good Friday rather than Easter Sunday.
