Mainland China's National Day is 1 October, marking the founding of the People's Republic on that date in 1949. The national holiday regulation gives it three days, and shifted workdays are then used to build a run of about a week — the 'Golden Week' that is one of the largest travel and spending windows of the year. Round anniversaries such as the tenth or seventieth bring a military parade; other years are marked mainly by local events.
