When is it?

Joint leave days placed around Eid al-Fitr and other holidays, announced each year in a joint decision of the ministers of religion, manpower and administrative reform; the Islamic-calendar dates themselves are set separately by decision of the minister of religion.

Indonesia splits the question across two documents. National holidays follow Presidential Decision No. 8 of 2024. Cuti bersama — joint leave — is set annually by a joint decision of the ministers of religion, manpower, and administrative and bureaucratic reform. The 2026 one is Numbers 1497, 2 and 5 of 2025, signed on 19 September 2025 at the coordinating ministry for human development and culture, fixing 17 national holidays and 8 joint leave days, 25 in total. The clause that defines the system is inside the decision itself: taking joint leave reduces the employee's annual leave entitlement. The days that join the run are paid for by the worker. In 2026 that produces 18 March joint leave, 19 March Nyepi, 20 March joint leave, 21 and 22 March Eid al-Fitr, 23 and 24 March joint leave — seven consecutive days. The start of Ramadan and the dates of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are not in the decision at all; they come from a separate decision of the minister of religion. The same document tells hospitals, power and water utilities, fire services, police, banks and transport operators to roster staff through it.
