How does China mark Labour Day?

In mainland China, Labour Day gets two days off under the national holiday regulation: 1 and 2 May. The second of May was added in the 2024 revision — the same revision that brought Lunar New Year's Eve into the Spring Festival break. In practice shifted workdays are then used to build a longer run, so the actual length of the 'May Day holiday' is decided each year by a State Council notice rather than being fixed.

1 May is International Workers' Day, but no two of these seven places treat it the same way: Taiwan only made it a universal day off under a new act in 2025, mainland China gives two days since its 2024 amendment, Brazil and Indonesia list it as a national holiday, India's national list does not contain it at all, Japan works on 1 May while the days around it are holidays, and the United States puts its Labor Day in September.
