Brazil's Dia dos Pais is the second Sunday in August, and its origin is the most candid of the four: in 1953 the advertising man and journalist Sylvio Bhering proposed it, aiming to attract merchants to advertise in the newspaper O Globo. Mother's Day drove the first half of the year and Christmas the end of it; August was the gap. The date was later fixed to the second Sunday of August so it would always land on a weekend.
