The United States has no federal holiday for Eid al-Adha. New York City's official public school calendar, however, lists it as a day schools are closed: Monday 17 May in the 2026–27 school year. The same calendar also closes schools for Eid al-Fitr, on 9 March. The recognition sits at school-district level rather than national, and reaches the classroom rather than the workplace — which is the usual shape of religious holidays in the United States, handled locally according to who lives there.
