Indonesia lists Good Friday — Wafat Yesus Kristus — as a statutory national holiday; in 2026 it fell on Friday 3 April. The arithmetic is counter-intuitive: this is the country with the largest Muslim population on earth, Christians make up around a tenth of it, and the day is nonetheless written into the national holiday table. Procedurally it is announced each year by a joint decree of the ministers of religion, manpower and administrative reform — the 2026 decree carries the numbers 1497/2025, 2/2025 and 5/2025, was signed on 19 September 2025, and sets out seventeen national holidays and eight collective leave days. The legal lineage runs back to Presidential Decree No. 10 of 1971, issued specifically to declare "Hari Wafat Isa Al-Masih" a holiday; Presidential Decree No. 8 of 2024 revoked four older decrees at once and consolidated them, and in the same act changed the holiday's name from Isa Al-Masih, the Islamic form, to Yesus Kristus. The renaming was not decoration — it settled whose day the official calendar says this is.
