How does United States mark Beer Festivals? · Oktoberfest Zinzinnati
There is no national beer festival in the United States, and no level of government stages one. Oktoberfest Zinzinnati ran 17–20 September 2026 at Sawyer Point and Yeatman's Cove on the Cincinnati riverfront, with free admission; the festival says it was first held in 1976 and drew a record 808,300 people last year, and its title sponsor is written into the event name. Government appears on the other side of the counter. Ohio's Division of Liquor Control requires a temporary permit before anyone sells drinks by the glass or charges admission that includes alcohol, under Ohio Revised Code sections 4303.20 to 4303.2012. The common F permit covers beer by the glass for up to five days, costs $40, must be filed thirty days ahead, and is limited to two per organisation in any thirty-day period; the F-2 permit covers beer, wine and spirits for up to four days at $150 and only in areas voted "wet" locally. Applicants must be charitable, fraternal, labour, educational, cultural, social, political, patriotic or athletic non-profits, and the rule states plainly that no temporary permit may be issued for the profit or gain of a private person. The same festival is a city department in Brazil and a time-limited licence to a non-profit in the United States.

How does Japan mark Beer Festivals?横浜オクトーバーフェスト
Japan treats the festival as a venue event. Yokohama Oktoberfest ran from 18 September to 4 October 2026, seventeen days, on the event plaza of the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse; because the warehouse borrows elements of German architecture, a Japanese Oktoberfest has been staged there since 2003, and 2026 was the twenty-third edition. Following Munich practice, five of the six breweries recognised by the German government took part, with more than twenty stalls. The event has no place in Japan's holiday law; what actually governs it is tax law. The National Tax Agency requires anyone setting up a temporary retail point to sell alcohol at an exhibition site to obtain a time-limited retail licence from the district tax office, in principle applied for two weeks before opening, or notified ten days ahead where the conditions are met. Those conditions include that the venue is not managed by the organiser itself, that the same party may file only once a month for the same place, and that selling alcohol must not be the main purpose of the event. Japan regulates the licence, not the festival.

How does Brazil mark Beer Festivals?Oktoberfest Blumenau
Brazil's Oktoberfest is held in Blumenau, Santa Catarina; the 2026 edition is the forty-first and runs from 7 to 25 October, nineteen days. It is not a private event that the city merely permits: the main site, Parque Vila Germânica, appears on the municipal website's own list of government organs, alongside the secretariats — the body that stages the festival is a body of the city administration. The city's tourism and leisure secretariat describes it as "the second largest version of the festival in the world, second only to its namesake in Munich, and the largest German festival in Brazil". The 2026 programme has eight official parades, seven on Rua 15 de Novembro in the centre and one in the Vila Itoupava district. Of the seven markets on this page, this is the only one where a government is the organiser.

How does China mark Beer Festivals?青岛国际啤酒节
China's version is not in October. The thirty-sixth Qingdao International Beer Festival ran from 17 July to 15 August 2026, thirty days, hosted by the Qingdao municipal government with the West Coast New Area administrative committee and the Laoshan, Shinan and Shibei district governments as co-organisers — the whole co-organiser list is administrative bodies. The theme is "Qingdao toasts the world"; there are three sites (West Coast, Laoshan and the old city), all three keeping free entry, and more than 2,300 Chinese and foreign brands. The origin is colonial: on 15 August 1903, German and British merchants of the Hong Kong Anglo-German Brewery Company (mostly Germans) financed the Germania Brewery Qingdao Co. on Captain Müller Street, now 56 Dengzhou Road, with a designed capacity of 2,000 tonnes a year — the first brewery in China and the only one from that era still operating. On 25 May 2006 the State Council listed the "early buildings of the Tsingtao Brewery" among the sixth batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level.

Does Indonesia have Beer Festivals?
Indonesia is the far end of this page: the event has no institutional place at all. The list of national holidays in Presidential Decision 8 of 2024 contains nothing of the kind, and the procurement, circulation and sale of alcohol are controlled under Presidential Regulation 74 of 2013, implemented through Ministry of Trade Regulation 20/M-DAG/PER/4/2014. The state's posture was clearest on 2 March 2021, when President Joko Widodo said at the Merdeka Palace that, after receiving input from the Indonesian Ulema Council, Nahdlatul Ulama, Muhammadiyah and other religious bodies, and from provinces and regions, he was revoking the annex of Presidential Regulation 10 of 2021 that had opened new investment in the alcoholic drinks industry. Only Bali moves the other way: Governor Regulation 1 of 2020, in force from 29 January 2020, brings Bali's own fermented and distilled drinks — arak, brem and tuak — into a governed framework, giving producers legal standing, production standards and branding support; the provincial government later stated that Presidential Regulation 10 of 2021 had opened room for industrial licensing and expansion of those traditional drinks. In Indonesia the same subject is tightened nationally and loosened in one province.

Does India have Beer Festivals?
India has no national beer festival, because alcohol was never governed by a single national rule. Both ends of the scale exist inside one country. In Goa, the state's own tourism department stages a festival built around local drinks: the central Ministry of Tourism's Utsav portal lists the Department of Tourism as the organiser of the Spirit of Goa Festival, a three-day event around coconut and cashew products including feni, urak, liqueurs and homemade wines, with live demonstrations of distilling and a cashew-stomping competition. At the other end, the Excise and Prohibition Department of Nagaland states on its own site that its main function has shifted from revenue collection and regulation to enforcing the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act of 1989 and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985, concentrating on prevention and on controlling the possession, sale, consumption, manufacture and transport of liquor. Asking what date the beer festival falls on is the wrong question in India; the first question is which state.

Does Taiwan have Beer Festivals?
Taiwan has no official beer festival. The Act on Commemorative Days and Holidays contains nothing of the kind, and the events that carry the name are dates chosen by a city government or a private organiser, with the central government taking no part. What is distinctive in Taiwan lies elsewhere: alcohol here used to be a state monopoly good. The Provisional Regulations on the Tobacco and Alcohol Monopoly within Taiwan Province were repealed only on 22 May 2002. The Tobacco and Alcohol Administration Act that replaced them defines alcohol as any beverage exceeding 0.5 per cent alcohol by volume, and names the Ministry of Finance as the competent authority at central level and the municipal government at special-municipality level. Article 30 of the same Act forbids selling alcohol through vending machines, mail order, electronic shopping or any other channel where the buyer's age cannot be identified; Article 32 requires packaged alcohol to carry the warning "excessive drinking harms health" or an equivalent. While a Brazilian city government stages a festival, Taiwan's central government only stepped out of the business of selling the drink itself a little over twenty years ago.
