When you ask about everyday life in Taiwan, the answers most often trip over the gap between the statutory date and what people actually do. The school year opens on 1 August but classes start in early September; Mother's Day and Father's Day are named in the statute and explicitly given no day off; when Children's Day collides with Tomb-Sweeping Day there is a dedicated substitution rule. So the answer to 'when do you have holidays' is frequently not the answer to 'when are you actually celebrating' — separating those two layers is what makes a reply usable. Another thing often missed is whether a date is lunar or Gregorian — the same festival name can sit a month apart depending on which calendar is meant.
