Topic: Cross-border Q&A

How does India mark Cross-border Q&A?

Everyday topic

When you ask about everyday life in India, the first thing to establish is which state and which community. The national holiday list is short — 1 May is not on it, and neither is Easter Sunday; marriage runs through personal law alongside the Special Marriage Act; the school year starts anywhere between March and June depending on the state. So a useful answer usually carries its qualifiers rather than offering one nationally valid statement — that kind of statement is usually wrong about India. The same festival can carry a completely different name in another state, so asking with the local name usually gets a more accurate answer than the English one.
