Who decides these days
Singapore's public holidays are listed in the schedule to the Holidays Act: eleven a year โ New Year's Day, two days of Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, Good Friday, Labour Day, Hari Raya Haji, Vesak Day, National Day, Deepavali and Christmas Day.
The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) gazettes the dates, usually in June of the year before: the 2026 list came out on 16 June 2025, the 2027 list on 18 June 2026.
Only New Year's Day, Labour Day, National Day (9 August) and Christmas are fixed; the rest follow the Chinese, Islamic, Buddhist or Hindu calendars, and the government takes its cue from religious bodies.
In 2022 the Singapore Buddhist Federation moved Vesak Day 2023 from May to 2 June, and MOM re-gazetted it.
Hari Raya dates are often first published as subject to confirmation.
When a holiday falls on a Sunday, the Monday after is a public holiday โ three times in 2026 (1 June, 10 August, 9 November), and on 8 February 2027 because the second day of Chinese New Year is a Sunday.
Saturday holidays get no extra day; employees under the Employment Act whose Saturday is a non-working day get a day off or a day's pay instead.
Working on a public holiday earns an extra day's basic pay, or a substitute day off by agreement.
Polling Day for general and presidential elections is also a public holiday, declared only in an election year, so it is not in this table.
